Programme

Healthcare and Community Welfare

Strengthening health centres, preparing for disease outbreaks, and supporting older people and other vulnerable groups.

NISD’s health work covers both the system and the household. On the system side the institute has worked to strengthen health centres and hospitals, improve access to medical supplies, and build the monitoring and surge capacity needed to respond to disease outbreaks.

On the household side, volunteers support older people, people with disabilities and others who cannot easily reach a health centre — including arranging transport to medical appointments and bringing prepared meals to those living alone.

What this programme sets out to do

  • Strengthen health centres and hospitals serving rural communities
  • Improve outbreak preparedness, monitoring and response
  • Ensure older people and people with disabilities can reach care
  • Raise community awareness of disease prevention
