Programme

Environment and Climate Action

Tree planting, waste management, conservation and community awareness work to restore land and reduce pollution.

NISD runs community-led environmental restoration work: planting native species to combat soil erosion and restore forest cover, clearing plastic waste from beaches and waterways, and running workshops that bring together local authorities, schools and environmental stakeholders.

The programme treats environmental work as community work. Tree planting is paired with discussion of why the trees matter, who will maintain them, and which species will survive future climate conditions — not simply with a count of seedlings in the ground.

What this programme sets out to do

  • Restore forest cover and biodiversity through planting native species
  • Reduce plastic pollution on coastlines and in communities
  • Combat soil erosion and improve air quality
  • Build community capacity to maintain environmental gains
